Summer and Cross Country, 2017

-- On July 4, 2017, several of our Alums continued a tradition at the unofficial alumni run/reunion at the Marlton Mayor's Cup 5K. To review, the event has become something of a Cherokee event as Chiefs have won the race seven times over its ten year history: Marc Pelerin '00 in 2009; Kevin Schickling '08 in 2010; Ty Somers '11 in 2011; Shawn Wilson '13 in 2012, 2014 and 2015; and Matt Mueller '02 in 2016! In 2011, an impressive record was set by James Gathoga of Toms River (15:34) but Cherokee's Shawn Wilson has the second-fastest time of 15:56 set in 2014! This year, we missed many of our "regulars" but Matt Mueller '02 showed and planned to repeat his victory of last year but he was forced to take 2nd behind an outsider (Matt Bell, 26, Medford, 16:03). Alums (some just graduated!) following Matt included: Nick Falk '17; Brendan Falzone '17; Mike Zurzolo '16; Mike Candy '05; Daulton Hopkins '16; Cam Wilburn '17; Chris Zurzolo '17; Colin Merrigan '11; Ryan Merrigan '12; Joey Thompson '17; and Josh Annandsingh '15 and probably some others that we missed!

-- On July 4, 2017, Alum Joe Halin '00, formerly of the Haddonfield Running Company and now attending nursing school, raced the Haddon Height Firecracker 5K finishing 10th in 19:56. One of Cherokee's greatest runners, lately Joe can be seen pushing a baby stroller in these 5K races! Results at: Run Sign Up.

-- On July 11, 2017, Alums Jack Shea '17 of Northern Arizona University, and Nick Falk '17 of Colorado State University met with Coach Shaklee and Coach Thompson, and former Coach Callinan, at Franco's Restaurant in Marlton to celebrate Jack's upcoming journey to a teammate's house in Colorado to train for his Freshman year at college! Nick, too, is headed out to Colorado for Freshman Orientation but he'll be back in SJ before he returns to his school and team!

-- On July 15, 2017, Alums Matt Mueller '02 and Dan Schules '02 raced the Sand and Sun 5K in Wildwood. Matt took an easy victory in 16:49 (5:25 pace), while Dan set a more leisurely pace, finishing in 21st place, clocking 22:03 (7:06). -- On September 2, 2017, Alum Jack Shea '17 of Northern Arizona University opened his college racing career at home in the 4.5 Mile Open Race of the George Kyte Classic at Flagstaff's Buffalo Park. National Champion NAU swept both the Varsity and Open competition, suggesting they're ready for the up-coming season! Jack finished in a 3 - 4 - 5 pack (that included Elliot Gindi, NJ's state champion last year), clocking 23:59.3 (5:20 pace). Race results at: Direct Athletics. The NAU site also reported on the race including a brief comment by Ass't Coach Jarrad Cornfield on our New Jersey boys: "Some of the freshman guys really stood out, Elliot Gindi and Jack Shea had strong races today." Our photographer was unavailable for the meet but he acquired this race picture from NAU that clearly shows Jack with the race leaders! The second picture, showing the team at the Grand Canyon, appeared on the NAU XC Tritter account. Setting not quite as spectacular as Camp Canadensis but it's OK. GO JACK!

-- Addendum: A member of the Shea family passed along a race picture showing Jack in action . . . yes, more than the top of his head! The original needs to be poster size to appreciate it but here is a smaller version of the original and then a cropped version.

-- On September 2, 2017, Alum Kaleb Burch '14 of Messiah College opened his final college XC season at the Del Val Invitational at Delaware Valley University in Doylestown, PA. Kaleb took 11th in the 5K race, clocking 17:05.4 (5:31 pace). Details at: Go Messiah.

-- On September 2, 2017, Alum Mike Zurzolo '16 of The College of New Jersey opened his sophomore season at the Blue/Gold Classic, hosted by TCNJ and contested at Rosedale Park in Pennington, NJ. Mike clocked 17:09.9 (5:31 pace) on the 5K course, placing 70th overall. Details at: Direct Athletics.

-- On September 2, 2017, Alum Cam Wilburn '17 of Holy Family University began his college XC career at the 17th Annual Wilmington University XC Invitational in Wilmington, Delaware. Cam finished the 8K race 14th overall/6th on his team in 32:27.14 (6:32 pace). Details at: Direct Athletics.

-- On September 2, 2017, Alum Brendan Falzone '17 of St Joseph's University began his college XC career at the Blue/Gold Classic, hosted by TCNJ and contested at Rosedale Park in Pennington, NJ. Brendan finished the 5K course in 72nd, clocking 17:21.3 (5:35 pace). Details at: Direct Athletics.

-- On September 2, 2017, Alum Steve Gravlin '16 of Rider University opened his sophomore season at the Blue/Gold Classic, hosted by TCNJ and contested at Rosedale Park in Pennington, NJ. Steve is listed on the race roster but not in the results. Odd. Details at: Direct Athletics.

-- On September 8, 2017, Alum Kaleb Burch '14 of Messiah College traveled to Stevenson University in Stevenson, MD to compete in the Shannon Henretty Invitational. Kaleb finished the 8K race in 11th/64 finishers in 27.41.53 (5:35 pace). Messaih did well taking five of the top six places, and Kaleb took seventh place on his team! Details at: Maryland Timing.

-- On September 9, 2017, Alum Cam Wilburn '17 of Holy Family University traveled to Philadelphia's Belmont Plateau for the Philadelphia Metro Classic. Cam finished the 8K race in 39th/100 finishers clocking 31.37.7 (6:22 pace). Reported results are a bit confused as they show a different meet and a different location! -- On September 15, 2017, Alum Brendan Falzone '17 of St Joseph's University traveled to the Rider University XC Invitational, contested at Rosedale Park in Pennington, NJ. Brendan finished the 8K race in 30:04.3 (6:02 pace) crossing the line in 69th/79 overall. His team finished 2nd/6 overall behind Temple University. Details at: TFRRS.

-- On September 15, 2017, Alum Steve Gravlin '16 of Rider University stayed at home for the 8K Rider University XC Invitational, contested at nearby Rosedale Park in Pennington, NJ. Steve finished in 74th/79 overall in 31:07.2 (8:16 pace). His team finished 4th/6 overall. Details at: TFRRS.

-- On September 16, 2017, Alum Cam Wilburn '17 of Holy Family University traveled to White Clay State Park in Newark, Delaware for the Deleware Invitational. Cam clocked 34.34.6 (6:58 pace) in the 8K race, finishing 63/86 overall. Details at: TFRRS.

-- On September 23, 2017, Alum Mike Zurzolo '16 of The College of New Jersey traveled to Stockton University for the Osprey Open, a chance to check out the site for the upcoming NJ Athletic Conference Championships. -- On September 23, 2017, Alum Kaleb Burch '14 of Messiah College stayed at home for the Messiah Invitational. Kaleb finished 9th/45 in 28:45 (pace: 5:47). Details at: Go Messiah

-- On September 29, 2017, Alum Steve Gravlin '16 of Rider University traveled to Lehigh University for the 8K Paul Short Invitational. Steve raced in the Open event, finishing in 257th/336 while clocking 28.53 (5:49 pace). Details at: Direct Athletics.

-- On September 29, 2017, Alum Brendan Falzone '17 of St Joseph's University traveled to Lehigh University for the 8K Paul Short Invitational. Brendan competed in the Open race, finishing 287th/336 while clocking 29:31 (5:56 pace). Details at: Direct Athletics.

-- On September 30, 2017, Alum Kaleb Burch '14 of Messiah College traveled to near-by Dickinson College for the Dickinson Long Short Invitational. Kaleb competed in the 8K, finishing 34th/152 in 27.27.2 (pace: 5:32). Messiah took 1st in the 17-team event! Details at: Direct Athletics.

-- On October 7, 2017, Alum Cam Wilburn '17 of Holy Family University traveled to the University of Delaware in Newark for the Blue and Gold Classic. Cam raced the 8K in 31:32.7 (6:21 pace), finishing 35th/64. The team finished 4th of 7 teams. Details at: TFRRS.

-- On October 7, 2017, Alum Kaleb Burch '14 of Messiah College traveled to Center Valley, PA for the DeSales University Invitational. Kaleb raced the 8K, finishing 66th/271 in 28:12 (5:41 pace). His team finished 1st in the 28-team event. Details at: Direct Athletics.

-- On October 14, 2017, Alum Brendan Falzone '17 of St Joseph's University traveled north to Lafayette College in Easton, PA for the small, 4-team 2017 Leopard Invitational. -- On October 20, 2017, Alum Jack Shea '17 of Northern Arizona University raced at the four-team, 4 mile Arizona State University Cross Country Invitational in Tampe, Az. Resting most of the team, NAU entered only six runners, two in uniform, and four, including Jack and two other New Jersey competitors, as unattached runners. The two uniformed NAU runners placed 2nd (21:02.39) and 3rd (21:05.51). Elliot Gindi, last year's NJ MOC winner, finished 4th (21:15.18); Joey DeFeo, of Delbarton and RunningWorks Camp, finished 10th (21:26.61); Jack was 21st (22:15.58; 5:34 pace)); and NAU's 4th unattached runner was 25th (22:26.46). Since they entered no fully-dressed team, NAU did not record a team score but, had they recorded the score, NAU would have finished 2nd. The Varsity team will return to action on October 28th at the Big Sky Championships in Ogden, Utah. -- On October 20, 2017, Alum Kaleb Burch '14 of Messiah College traveled to Union Canal Tunnel Park in Lebanon, PA for the three-team Lebanon Valley College Last Chance to Run Fast Meet. Kaleb finished the 8K race in 10th/46, while clocking 27:31.3 (5:32 pace) and Messiah swept the meet against Gettysburg and Mount St. Mary. Messiah is looking forward to the MAC Championships on the 28th. Details at: TFRRS.

-- On October 22, 2017, Alum Nick Falk '17, formerly of Colorado State University and looking forward to admission to The College of New Jersey, raced the USATF NJ 8K Cross Country Championship at Deer Path Park in Flemington, NJ. Nick finished 6th in the race while clocking 25:56 (5:13 pace)! Details at: Compuscore. Our photographer was at the event! -- On October 22, 2017, Alum Cam Wilburn '17 of Holy Family University traveled south on I-95 to White Clay Creek Park in Newark, Delaware for the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) XC Championship. Cam finished 65th/91 in the 4.97 mile race, clocking 31:21 (6:19 pace). His team finished 9th/14 teams. Details at: TFRRS.

-- On October 28, 2017, Alum Mike Zurzolo '16 of The College of New Jersey traveled to Stockton University in Galloway for the New Jersey Athletic Conference XC Championships. Mike finished the 8K race in 41st/89 with a time of 27:52.33 (5:37 pace). His team finished in 2nd place with 40 points just behind winning Rowan University with 36. Details at: TCNJ Athletics.

-- On October 28, 2017, Alum Kaleb Burch '14 of Messiah College traveled to Delaware Valley University in Doylestown, PA for the Middle Atlantic Conference XC Championships. Kaleb raced the 8K course in 27:52.3 (Pace 5:37) and finished 7th on his team, 26th/158 overall! His team won the championship over 16 other teams, its first since 2008! Details at: GO MESSIAH.

*******Interesting coincidence: Kaleb Burch and Mike Zurzolo ran the exact same time on the same day on different courses! Go figure!

Winter/Indoor Track, 2017 - 2018

-- On December 1, 2017, Alum Cam Wilburn '17 of Holy Family University received a rude welcome to college Track and Field when he traveled to Staten Island's Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex for the Fastrack Metro Season Opener. Cam competed in the 500m Dash and finished 23rd/24 overall in 1:14.70. Details at: Direct Athletics.

-- On December 2, 2017, Alum Kaleb Burch '14 of Messiah College traveled to nearby Franklin and Marshall College for the Diplomat Open where he competed in the 500m Run. -- On December 2, 2017, Alum Brendan Falzone '17 of St Joseph's University traveled around the corner to Haverford College for the small season-opening Jack Pyrah Invitational. -- On December 2, 2017, Alum Mark Kirby '16, of Stockton University opened his Indoor Track season at Frankin and Marshall College in the Diplomat Open. Mark competed in the Pole Vault, clearing 3.35m (10' 11.89") to finish 22/30 overall. Details at: Direct Athletics.

-- On December 8, 2017, Alum Cam Wilburn '17 of Holy Family University returned to Staten Island's Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex for the Widener College Seahawks Shootout. Cam raced the 600m Dash in 1:30.23 to finish 31st/38 overall. He also anchored the 1600m Sprint Medley where the team finished 4th in their heat/5th overall in 3:50.00. Details at: TFRRS.

-- On January 5, 2018, Alum Brendan Falzone '17 of St Joseph's University went up to the Ocean Breeze T & F Center for the Wagner Invitational. Brendan competed in the Mile, finishing 15th in his heat, 65th/72 overall, in 5:01.74. Details at: Direct Athletics

-- On January 12, 2018, Alum Jack Shea '17 of Northern Arizona University opened his college track career at NAU's Friday Night Duals. Jack competed in the Mile Run, finishing 1st in 4:31.88! Former NJ state 1600m champion, Freshman Elliot Gindi, finished 8th in 4:40.18. Also, he competed in the 3000m as well, finishing 1st/5 overall in 9:18.79 (5:00 pace)! Gindi raced this one as well, finishing 5th in 9:53.10. NAU Coach Michael Smith was reported saying, "Jack Shea competed hard . . . which we love to see." FYI: Those of you familiar with the difference between racing "at altitude" and racing at lower altitudes know these are nice times! -- On January 12, 2018, Alum Cam Wilburn '17 of Holy Family University began the new year at the Ocean Breeze Complex in the Spartan Invitational. He finished 7th in his heat, 36th/53 overall in 2:14.48. Details at: Direct Athletics.

-- On January 12, 2018, Alum Steve Gravlin '16 of Rider University returned to the Ocean Breeze Complex for the Spartan Invitational. Steve competed in the 3000m Run, finishing 2nd in his heat, 44th/60 overall, in 9:53.22 (5:19 pace), a significant improvement over his last 3K! Details at: Direct Athletics.

-- On January 13, 2018, Alum Brendan Falzone '17 of St Joseph's University traveled to Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA for the Lehigh Angry Birds Challenge where he competed in the Mile Run. Brendan finished 22nd/23 in 5:02.12. Detail at: TF MeetPro.

-- On January 13, 2018, Alum Mike Zurzolo '16 of The College of New Jersey bussed to Towsen, Maryland for the Towsen Tiger Invitational. Mike raced the Mile, finishing 1st in his heat, 12th/25 overall, in 4:34.52. Details at: Direct Athletics.

-- On January 19, 2018, Alum Cam Wilburn '17 of Holy Family University returned to the Ocean Breeze Complex for the New York Gotham Cup. Cam raced in two events: the 1,000m, where he finished 10th in his heat, 28th/32 overall in 2:50.28; and the 4,000m Distance Medley Relay, where his team finished 5th/6 overall in 11:52.58. -- On January 19, 2018, Alum Kaleb Burch '14 of Messiah College traveled to nearby Selinsgrove, PA for the Orange and Maroon Classic. Kaleb raced the 3K, finishing 12th/29 overall in 9:39.45 (5:11 pace). Details at: Direct Athletics.

-- On January 19, 2018, Alum Mike Zurzolo '16 of The College of New Jersey bussed to the Ocean Breeze Complex for the New York Gotham Cup. Mike competed in the 3K, where he finished in 4th/32 overall in 8:52.05! The TCNJ website reported that Mike's time is 2nd fastest time in the NJ Athletic Conference this season and provided a Mike-pic that doesn't appear to be from OB! Details at: TCNJ Athletics.

-- On January 19, 2018, Alum Jack Shea '17 of Northern Arizona University continued his impressive racing at home in NAU's Lumberjack Team Challenge and, again, he doubled! In the Mile, he finished 3rd (1st Freshman!) in 4:25.12, a 6 second improvement from last week; and in the 3K, he finished 5th in 8:54.98 (again, 1st Freshman!), a 24 second improvement from last week! Running "at altitude" is a lot harder than running at sea level and there are "conversion tables" that help us to understand the difference. Jack's mile, for example, converts to 4:15, and the 3K converts to 8:30 (4:34 pace) or, carried farther, a 9:04 (4:32 pace) Two Mile! Details at: NAU Athletics.

-- On January 20, 2018, Alum Brendan Falzone '17 of St Joseph's University went up to the Ocean Breeze Center for the Penn 8-Team Select. Brendan raced the Mile in 4:58.93. Details at: Direct Athletics.

-- On January 26, 2018, Alum Kaleb Burch '14 of Messiah College traveled to Bucknell University at nearby Lewisburg, PA for the 20th Annual Bison Open. Kalebl raced the 5K, finishing 10th in his heat, 21st/25 overall, in 16:33.20 (5:20 pace). Details at: Bucknell Bison.

-- On January 26, 2018, Alum Brendan Falzone '17 of St Joseph's University went up to Monmouth University in West Long Branch, NJ for the Monmouth Winter Collegiate Invitational. Brendan raced the Mile in 4:51.15, finishing 9th/15 overall. Details at: Direct Athletics.

-- On January 27, 2017, Alum Mark Kirby '16, of Stockton University returned to Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA for the John Covert Classic. Last time, on December 8th, he NH'd at 3.65m (12'). This time he NH'd again at 3.65m (12'). Details at: Direct Athletics.

-- On February 2, 2018, Alum Steve Gravlin '16 of Rider University competed in the TCNJ-Rider Dual Meet at the Indoor Lavino Facility at the Lawrenceville School. Steve raced the 3K in 9:50.97 (5:17 pace) to finish 11th/12 overall. Details at: Direct Athletics.

-- On February 2, 2018, Alum Mike Zurzolo '16 of The College of New Jersey competed in several races at the TCNJ-Rider Dual Meet at the near-by Lawrenceville School. Mike raced the mile in 4:28.46, finishing 6th/13 overall, and the anchor leg in the 4 X 400m Relay that clocked 3:46.14 and finished 3rd/3 overall. Details at: Direct Athletics.

-- On February 2, 2018, Alum Jack Shea '17 of Northern Arizona University continued his racing at home in NAU's Mountain T's Invitational and, again, he doubled. On Friday (2nd) he raced the Mile in 4:24.22, taking 6th place! The NCAA conversion for altitude is a 4:14 mile! On Saturday, he raced the 3K in 8:40.43 (4:40 pace), finishing 5th! Coach Shaklee reported that his 3K . . . "supposedly converts to an 8:50.43 for 2 miles at sea level. Not sure if that's legit but he is definitely running well!" Official results at: TFRRS.

-- On February 3, 2018, Alum Cam Wilburn '17 of Holy Family University traveled to Collegeville, PA for the Ursinus College Frank Colden Invitational. Cam raced the 400m in 54.99 to finish 24th/53 overall; and he filled the 2nd leg of the winning 4 X 400m Relay that finished in 3:29.58! Details at: TFRRS.

-- On February 3, 2018, Alum Brendan Falzone '17 of St Joseph's University went up to Collegeville, PA for the Ursinus College Frank Colden Invitational. Brendan raced the Mile in 4:55.22, finishing 8th in his heat, 32nd/57 overall. Details at: Direct Athletics.

-- On February 9, 2018, Alum Jack Shea '17 of Northern Arizona University continued his insane racing at the Iowa State Classic in Ames, Iowa! Jack raced the 5K on Iowa State's 300m flat Mondo track in 14:14.33! (I know, read that again!) Racing in the 2nd of 3 heats, Jack finished 5th in his heat, 5th/44 overall (before counting the 3rd heat, not yet run at this posting)! For the Cherokee record, that's the fastest 5K by a Cherokee athlete, in high school or college! The previous record of 14:17.77 was held by Keith Krieger! At this posting, Jack ranks 1st in the Big Sky Conference, and the # 1 real (not "redshirt") Freshman in the NCAA! Excellent details at: FloTrack.

-- On February 9, 2018, Alum Cam Wilburn '17 of Holy Family University returned to the Ocean Breeze Complex for the Fastrack National Invitational and raced the 800m in 2:01.57 to finish 1st in his heat, 37th/56 overall! Details at: Direct Athletics.

-- On February 9, 2018, Alum Mike Zurzolo '16 of The College of New Jersey traveled to Boston University's David Hemery Valentine Invitational and competed among a huge group of 3K racers! Mike clocked 8:49.66 (4.44 pace) and finished 149th/168 overall . . . 12 heats of the 3K! Details at: Direct Athletics.

-- On February 10, 2018, Alum Kaleb Burch '14 of Messiah College traveled to Houghton College in New York State today to compete in the Highlander Invitational # 2. Kaleb raced the 3K in 9:25.15 (5.03 pace) and finished 7th/18 overall. Details at: Direct Athletics.

-- On February 17, 2018, Alum Steve Gravlin '16 of Rider University got to race at the "indoor racing Mecca," the NYC Armory! He competed in the Metro Atlantic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships and raced the 800m in 2:10.79. Details at: Direct Athletics.

-- On February 19, 2018, Alum Mike Zurzolo '16 of The College of New Jersey traveled to the New Jersey Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Ocean Breeze Complex on Staten Island, NY, and raced the 3K in 8:56.61 (4:48 pace). He finished 2nd/13 overall and scored 8 points for the team! Even so, his team finished 3rd behind Rowan and Stockton in the competition. -- On February 19, 2018, our crack team of researchers discovered that Alum Daulton Hopkins '16 of The College of New Jersey has been racing for the college since December, 2017! Most recently, he competed at the New Jersey Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Ocean Breeze Complex on Staten Island, NY. Daulton raced in several sprint events. -- On February 19, 2017, Alum Mark Kirby '16 of Stockton University traveled to the New Jersey Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Ocean Breeze Complex on Staten Island, NY, and competed in the Pole Vault. -- On February 23, 2018, Alum Cam Wilburn '17 of Holy Family University returned to the Ocean Breeze Complex for the ECC Indoor Track and Field Championships and raced in the 800m competition. After a positive 2:01 showing last week, this week he fell to last in his heat, clocking a disappointing 2:08.00. He also ran the 800m in a Distance Medley Relay of two Sophomores and two Freshmen that finished in 11:01.62, 6th/8 overall, and set a 10-second school record! Details at: TFRRS.

-- On February 23-24, 2018, Alum Jack Shea '17 of Northern Arizona University "returned to earth" when he raced "at altitude" at home in the Big Sky Indoor Track and Field Championships! Jack doubled in the meet, racing the 5K in 15:29.88 and finishing 13th/29 overall; and the 3K in 9:04.33, finishing 23rd/36 overall. Both timeswere well-off his PR's set during this stunning season! -- On February 23-24, 2018, Alum Kaleb Burch '14 of Messiah College traveled to Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA for the Middle Atlantic Conference Track and Field Championships and doubled in the 3K and the 5K! In the 3K, Kaleb finished 22nd/28 overall in 9:21.35, an Indoor PR this year; while in the 5K, he finished 19th/22 overall in 16:21.47, about 10 seconds off his season PR. -- On March 2, 2018, Alums Mike Zurzolo '16 and Daulton Hopkins '16 of The College of New Jersey traveled to the All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Conference Championships at Ithaca College in NY. Mike anchored the 4,000m DMR that finished 9th/12 overall in 10:32.81. Leone Timing results showed Mike clocking 4:29.22 on his leg. Spring/Outdoor Track, 2018

-- On March 16, 2018, Alum Jack Shea '17 of Northern Arizona University traveled to Arizona State University in Tempe for the Baldy Castillo Invitational and competed in the 1500m and 3K! In the early race, Jack finished 16th/23 overall in 3:59.13! The official results listed his splits as: 47.34, then 1:06 27, 1:05.60, and 59.930! Later, he got into the 3K, finishing 1st in 8:23.17! He ran his last 800m in 2:06 and went 61 in his final 400m! Those two performances work out to be around 4:16.7 and 9:00.2 for the 1600m and 3200m, using the accepted conversion of 1.0737. -- On March 24, 2018, Alums Cam Wilburn '17 of Holy Family University, and Matt Gross '16 of Rutgers University-Camden, opened their Spring seasons in the Delaware Classic at the University of Delaware in Newark. Cam raced the 1500m in 4:32.61, finishing 13th/26 overall, and a leg of the 4 X 400m Relay that finished 2nd/8th overall in 3:26.93. -- On March 24, 2018, Alum Steve Gravlin '16 of Rider University opened his Spring season competing in the Penn Challenge at the storied Franklin Field in Philadelphia. Steve raced the 3K in 10:00.47 (5:23 pace). Details at: Direct Athletics.

-- On March 30, 2018, Alum Kaleb Burch '14 of Messiah College opened his Spring season at the Danny Curran Invitational at Widener College in Chester, PA. Kaleb raced the 10K, finishing 11th/21 in 34.18.74 (5:31 pace). Details at: Direct Athletics.

-- On March 31, 2018, Alums Cam Wilburn '17 of Holy Family University, Matt Gross '16 of Rutgers University-Camden, and Daulton Hopkins '16 of The College of New Jersey, competed in the Stockton University Invitational in Pomona, NJ. Cam raced the 1500m in 4:21.88 and finished 10th/35 overall, and as the second leg of Holy Family's B-team 4 X 400m Relay that finished 11th/11 overall in 3:42.06. Matt threw the Javelin 54.32m (178' 2'), a meter farther than his best last year, and finished 4th/22 overall. Finally, Daulton kept busy racing in three events: in the 100m Dash, he clocked 11.67 and finished 13th/30 overall; in the 200m Dash, he clocked 23.72 and finished 20th/44; and as the second leg of the 4 X 100m Relay his team clocked 43.32 and finished 2nd/6th overall. -- On March 31, 2018, Alum Steve Gravlin '16 of Rider University and Brendan Falzone '17 of St Joseph's University competed in the Five-Way Meet at Rider University. Steve raced the 1500m in 4:32.50, while Brendan is recorded as racing the 3K in 8:42.48, winning the second heat and taking 2nd overall in the event! All of us would LOVE to see Brendan do that but, as it is the equivalent of about 9:20 in the 3200m, it seems iffy. -- On April 6, 2018, Alum Jack Shea '17 of Northern Arizona University traveled to the 39th Sun Angel Track Classic in Tempe, AZ where he competed in the 3K and the 1500m! Jack took 2nd in the 3K in a PR time of 8:23.66 (4:31 pace) . . . only .41 behind the winner, Blaise Ferro, formerly of CBA! -- On April 6, 2018, Alums Cam Wilburn '17 of Holy Family University, and Matt Gross '16 of Rutgers University-Camden, traveled to Rowan University in Glassboro, NJ for the Oscar Moore T & F Invitational. Cam raced the 1500m in 4:23.36 and finished 7th/21 overall, and the 400m Dash in 54:30 and finished 13th/17 overall. -- On April 6, 2018, Alums Mike Zurzolo '16 of The College of New Jersey, and Steve Gravlin '16 of Rider University, competed in the 2018 TCNJ Invitational. -- On April 13, 2018, Alums Cam Wilburn '17 of Holy Family University, and Matt Gross '16 of Rutgers University-Camden, traveled to Stockton University in Pomona, NJ, while Jordan Aughenbaugh '14, and Mark Kirby '16 of Stockton, stayed at home for the Osprey Open. Cam competed in the 800m Run, finishing 21st/61 overall in 2:05.97, and he anchored the 4 X 400m Relay that finished 4th/16 overall in 3:25.76. Matt threw the Javelin 53.22m (174' 7") on his first attempt and finished 5th/19 overall. Jordan made his first appearance on the team since last Spring and he ran the 800m, finishing 30th/61 overall in 2:08.91; and Mark competed in the Pole Vault, finishing 7th/7 overall after clearing the opening height of 3.30m (11'). -- On April 14, 2018, Alum Kaleb Burch '14 of Messiah College stayed at home for the Messiah Invitational where he competed in the 5K, finishing 5th/20 in 16:34.54 (5:20 pace). His team won the 14-team competition. Details at: Messiah.

-- On April 14, 2018, Alums Brendan Falzone '17 of St Joseph's University, and Steve Gravlin '16 of Rider University, competed in the Rider Invitational at Rider University. -- On April 14, 2018, Alums Mike Zurzolo '16 and Daulton Hopkins '16, both of The College of New Jersey, competed in the Chester Quarry Classic at Widener university in Chester, PA. Mike raced the 1500m in a PR 4:08.54, finishing 14th/44 overall; and Daulton competed in three events: in the 100m Dash, he finished 12th/27 overall in 11.74; in the 200m, he finished 19th/30 overall in 24:05; and in the 4 X 100m Relay, he anchored his team that finished in 43.18, 4th/8 overall. -- On April 20, 2018, Alums Mike Zurzolo '16 and Daulton Hopkins '16, both of The College of New Jersey, competed in the Greyhound Invitational at Moravian College in Bethelem, PA. Mike raced the 3K Steeplechase in 9:58.23, finishing 3rd/12 overall! Daulton raced the 100m Dash in 11.99 and finished 19th/26 overall; and the 200m Dash in 23.91 and finished 17th/35 overall.
